Morbark Welcomes New Sales Manager
Morbark welcomed Casey Gross as sales manager for its Tree Care Products business unit. Gross comes to Morbark with 28 years of tree care equipment industry experience, including 20 years in sales and management roles. He will be responsible for sales team leadership, as well as general management responsibilities.
The wood-boring insect on our June cover was incorrectly identified as an Asian long-horned beetle, when it is in fact a white-spotted pine sawyer. We regret that this mistake was not caught until after the issue went to print and apologize for any confusion it may have caused.
Denis Cimaf Launches New Website
Denis Cimaf, Inc. has introduced its new website, which better presents its high-end products for industrial land clearing, forest fire prevention, and development and maintenance of roadsides, pipelines and transmission lines. Among other novelties is the EWF, a new family of industrial power packs for extra and independent hydraulic power for attachments mounted on excavators, dozers, graders, front-end loaders and tractors.
Dosko Announces New Distributor
Dosko announced that Hayward Distributing Co., Columbus, Ohio, will provide distribution and dealer support for Dosko products in western Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia. Hayward has over 60 years of experience in the distribution industry.
Stihl Expands TCIAF Sponsorship
The Tree Care Industry Association announced that Stihl, Inc. has renewed and increased its sponsorship of the Tree Care Industry Association Foundation Student Career Days for 2011. TCIAF SCD includes the annual Student Skills Competition and is held at the TCI Expo, which will take place November 4-5 in Hartford, Conn. Stihl’s expanded sponsorship will put more money toward the travel fund, allowing more students to participate.
Echo Bear Cat Makes Equipment Donations
Echo Bear Cat, along with distributor Jerry Pate Turf & Irrigation, has donated over $10,000 worth of equipment to several communities in Alabama affected by the April tornadoes. Echo Bear Cat wheeled vacuums were donated to the city of Guntersville, the city of Tuscaloosa and community service departments in Rainsville. The donations were made by Norman Bonds of Bonds Appliance, Charlie Singley of Singley Small Engines and Bruce Wright of Wright’s Equipment.
Giuffre Supplies Recovery Vehicle
Giuffre Bros. Cranes, Inc. was the official recovery vehicle provider for the 2011 Indianapolis 500. Upon request by Mel Harder, head of operations at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Giuffre developed and fabricated a special crane and flatbed that could be used for lifting, recovering and clearing disabled racecars from the track. The Safety Recovery Vehicle is a Giuffre/Fassi hydraulic crane mounted on a Ford F750 chassis with a 20-foot flatbed.
Davey Announces Project
The Davey Tree Expert Co. is honoring the 25-year legacy of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” by bringing the experience of reading a book in the shade of a tree to more communities across the country. In a program it calls “Reading Takes Root,” Davey will donate and plant 25 large oak trees on school grounds across the U.S. in conjunction with school library renovations carried out by Target and The Heart of America Foundation. Stay Green Hosts Whale Watch
Stay Green, Inc. invited staff and clients alike to a whale watching event. The 30 clients and 16 staff members who went on the trip did not see any whales, but the event enabled the company to nurture relationships in multiple directions.

Bandit Industries returned to NASCAR, this time with Sprint Cup driver T.J. Bell and the LTD Powersports No. 50 BanditChippers.com Toyota Camry. Bandit was the primary sponsor for Bell in the Sprint Showdown and also supported him in the Coca-Cola 600.
Swingle CEO Warns of Beetle Destruction
Since 1996, mountain pine beetles have devastated 3.2 million acres of Colorado forest. Now, Tom Tolkacz, CEO of Swingle Lawn, Tree & Landscape Care, says the pests are infiltrating the Front Range’s urban areas. The 2010 Colorado State Forest Service Annual Report indicates the mountain pine beetle infestation jumped from 22,000 to 229,000 acres along the Colorado Front Range in one year.
News from Palfinger
Palfinger North America has added two additional training facilities for its educational institution, Palfinger University. Joining the Tiffin, Ohio, location, the new locations are Trenton, N.J., and Cerritos, Calif. The seven instructors that conduct the courses are experts from Palfinger’s sales and service teams.
Mike Redding was named to lead Omaha Standard Palfinger’s customer support group. A 33-year veteran of the OSP family, Redding brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
OSP also named Mark Whaley as president, Robby Simard as executive vice president of operations and Eric Kluver as finance director for Palfinger Asia Pacific. Wolfgang Steinhart will become vice president of finance and retain his duties as Palfinger North America’s group finance manager. Jim Brown, who currently serves as OSP product manager, will now oversee OSP’s design engineering staff in addition to his current duties.
Arbor Day Event
The highlight of Arbor Day in Madison, Wis., was the planting of a large bur oak in Capitol Square Park. The oak was donated by The Bruce Co. on behalf of the Wisconsin Nursery Association. The company’s Kathy Swingen, WNA board member and Wisconsin Green Industry Federation vice president, organized the tree planting.
