ISA Recognizes Arboriculture Professionals

The International Society of Arboriculture has recognized seven individuals as “True Professionals of Arboriculture.” The program was launched to recognize professional arborists who help increase public understanding of arboriculture and the professional skills of today’s arborists. The 2009 honorees were Sandy Clark, Mount Prospect, Ill.; Gerard Fournier, Didsbury, Alb.; Edward B. Hopkins, Rochester, N.H.; Dave Leonard, Lexington, Ky.; Harold Spiegel, Dallas, Texas; Dennis Swartzel, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Philip Van Wassenaer, Mississauga, Ont.

Nelson Names Turner as VP

Nelson Tree Service, Inc., Dayton, Ohio, appointed Robert “Bob” Turner Jr. to the position of vice president. Turner has over 32 years’ experience in the line clearance industry and began working for Nelson in 1998 as a supervisor in New Jersey. He is a New Jersey Certified Tree Expert, ISA Certified Arborist/Utility Specialist, Maryland Tree Expert and certified commercial pesticide applicator in several states.

Almstead Helps Clean up Central Park

Almstead Tree & Shrub Care Co., New Rochelle, N.Y., helped clean up tree damage sustained during a severe storm in Central Park, New York, N.Y. At the request of the Central Park Conservancy, Almstead responded immediately with emergency crews and employed 24 pieces of equipment, including a 38-ton crane to lift trees from the site.

PTI Offers Free Safety Publications Online

The Power Tool Institute now offers downloadable PDFs of its major publications on its revised Web site at www.powertoolinstitute.com, including “Safety is Specific” and “A Teacher’s Reference Guide to Power Tool Safety.” The new site also includes safety videos, manufacturer member profiles, a glossary of common power tool terms, PTI Voluntary Procedures, power tool advisories and a safety maintenance checklist.

LaVelle Appointed COO of Arborwell

Arborwell Professional Tree Management, Hayward, Calif., appointed Andy LaVelle to the position of chief operating officer. Previously, he was Arborwell’s vice president and general manager. LaVelle holds a degree in horticulture and is an ISA Certified Arborist and Certified Tree Care Safety Professional.
